MARCH 7, 1952

Sixty five years ago today, the logs for Telemark 1 arrived on site in Perisher carried on the back of a Selmer Engineering truck, the Norwegian company who had won the contract to build the Guthega Power Station.

The logs where shipped out from Norway on the British cargo ship “Lodestone” where a fire in the cargo hold whilst loading at port in Fredrikstad darkened some of the logs.   When the logs were assembled in Perisher, it was decided the best way to deal with the colour variation was to darken all the logs.

The logs had arrived in Sydney in 1951 and were stored at Lars Halvorsen & Sons boat yard in Ryde.  At this time, the Club did not have permission to build, however their optimism paid off.
