Telemark Ski Club was established in 1951 by a group of ski and mountain enthusiasts many of whom were Norwegian or had a Norwegian background.
Telemark’s founding members were true pioneers, and it is thanks to their vision, initiative and hard work that Telemark became the first completed lodge in Perisher.
Telemark is a non-commercial sports club located in Perisher Valley, NSW, Australia.
Telemark Ski Club was born in 1951, originally consisting of 8 members expanding to 12 in 1952.
Telemark is made up of two log cabins sleeping a total of 18 and a central wood shed.
Members worked tirelessly to erect Telemark 1, an authentic pre-fabricated Norwegian hut with logs shipped individually, over a period of 9 weeks, consisting mainly of weekend working bees. A party was hosted on 17th May 1952 to celebrate completion of the lodge with the first winter season taking place shortly after.
Telemark 2 was similarly built by members over many weekends, however with locally sourced materials with completion during the Autumn of 1961.
